The official ShipStation MCP server vs Ask AI
ShipStation publishes its own open-source MCP server (shipstation/mcp-shipstation-api on GitHub). It is free, runs on your own computer through Node.js or Docker, authenticates with a ShipStation V2 API key, and can create labels, fetch rates and manage batches, which makes it a good fit for Claude Desktop or Claude Code if you are comfortable running it yourself. ShipStation describes it as an MVP. Ask AI is a hosted MCP server instead: there is nothing to install or keep running, it works in Claude on the web as well as ChatGPT and Perplexity, and it is read-only, so it can never buy a label or change an order. Its strength is analysis across tools, because your ShipStation shipments sit alongside your Shopify orders, Xero accounts and reviews in the same conversation. If you need to create labels from AI, use the official server. If you want to know what shipping is really costing you, use Ask AI. You can add both to the same Claude account.

Does the Ask AI ShipStation MCP server work in Claude on the web?
Yes. Ask AI is a remote MCP server, so you add one URL to Claude on the web, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT or Perplexity. Nothing runs on your computer.
Can Ask AI create ShipStation labels or change orders?
No. Ask AI has read-only access to ShipStation. It reads shipments, costs, carriers and fulfilment times so you can analyse them, but it cannot buy labels, void shipments or edit orders.
Which ShipStation credentials does Ask AI need?
Your ShipStation API Key and API Secret, found under Settings, Account, API Settings in ShipStation.
Can I combine ShipStation data with Shopify?
